Alvin Quek
Co founder, Certified Pilates Instructor
Alvin is an international Pilates instructor with a dance degree
from Queensland University Australia. He is an experienced
choreographer and performer, and has danced professionally with the
Arts Fission Company of which he is a founding member. Having been
nominated for the Young Artists Award in 1998, Alvin went on to
become Outstanding Instructor of the Year. A past lecturer at the
LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts and consultant to the Civil Service
Dance Group, he is also the Founding Director of the Wheel Dance
Repertory, a physically handicapped performing group.
Alvin is highly experienced in Pilates mat work and the use of
studio equipment. Until recently, he worked closely with recognised
medical practitioners, physiotherapists and orthopaedic surgeons.
Alvin now spends his time teaching at PilatesClinic and is the
principal trainer and external examiner for other leading London
Pilates schools.
Irit Endleman
Co founder, Msc Physiotherapist, Certified Pilates
Instructor
Irit is a highly qualified physiotherapist with a Master degree
of science in advanced Physiotherapy at University College London
and is a member of the MACP. She has
ten years experience in treating and rehabilitating private
patients and athletes including professional dancers and
footballers. Irit's background as a dancer at the National Israeli
Ballet Company has given her a strong base for mastering Pilates as
a form of treatment. Her ability to combine a high level of manual
technique with the Pilates method means that she can tailor
specific rehabilitation programmes for individual problems. She has
recently published her unique research into a study on the effects of Pilates on
the abdominal muscles. Irit is currently teaching other
Physiotherapists and Pilates instructors how to adapt the
traditional Pilates repertoire into a flexible and effective
medical procedure as well as continuing her work with private
patients requiring individual programmes.
Alex Smart
Senior Physiotherapist Bsc,
Alex graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2003 with a BSc
(hons) in Physiotherapy and has been practicing as a chartered
physiotherapist since. He has had the benefit of working in a
variety of settings including the NHS where he worked for over four
years and further developed his skills treating acute, chronic and
long term conditions. Since leaving the NHS, Alex has worked in
various private clinics. He gained experience treating West End
production's actors and dancers. His passion to Ski led him to take
an opportunity to live, work and treat injured Skiers in Courchevel
skiing resort in France. Alex keeps up to date with the
latest research through regular attendance of post graduate
courses. This enables him to draw upon a broad vocabulary of
physiotherapy techniques, to treat specific musculoskeletal
conditions efficiently and get the optimum outcome for each one of
his clients.
Mariah Thomas
In house Pilates instructor, NVQ level 3
Mariah discovered her passion and the benefits of the Pilates
method while training as a professional classical Ballet dancer.
She danced for various American ballet companies including Ballet
Austin, The Pennsylvania Ballet and Augusta Ballet Company.
Thorough the several dance injuries she sustained as a performing
dancer she developed a keen interest in dance medicine and Pilates
rehabilitation. Mariah received her first Pilates qualification in
2003 from Body Balancing USA (''Pilates method alliance''
recognised). Upon moving to the U.K. she continued her extensive
training and gained higher Pilates teachers qualification from
Pilates International in London. Mariah gained experience in
teaching Pilates to complex presentations and persistent/chronic
pain through her work alongside Physiotherapists. She has a special
interest in the management of pregnant and postnatal women, as well
as pelvic and low back pain. Mariah continues to teach the
classical Pilates method to the uninjured population; dancers and
athletes.
